(updated Dec. 29, 2009)

  • Users must register in order to post evaluations or comments. If users wish to post certain evaluations under a higher degree of anonymity, they may optionally register for a second user name, which can remain unconnected to the first. An individual may only post a single evaluation of a given method, though this evaluation may be adjusted or deleted as desired.
  • Evaluations of literature methods should only be posted based on evaluators’ personal experiences with the method of interest, or the experiences of co-workers under their immediate supervision. We aren’t interested in this forum in subjective opinions of the researchers involved, or the general area of study, for example.
  • Any conflicts of interest must be declared in the text of an evaluation, for example when an evaluation is submitted of the work of a competing researcher. Evaluations should never be provided of ones own published work.
  • Though it is impossible for us to verify personal identities, users should not endeavor to impersonate other researchers. If we receive complaints of impersonation, we reserve the right to add disclaimers to such evaluations or comments.
  • Lewdness, hate speech, displays of bigotry, blatant advertising, incomprehensible text, and text which is in some way illegal are unacceptable. We also reserve the right to remove anything potentially libelous, according to our own judgment (we don’t have the time or money to deal with such issues).
  • Users are personally responsible for any copyright or intellectual property laws pertaining to anything they post on ScienceCheck. Plagarism or the publication of text or data without proper permission is unacceptable.
  • You must be a human. Accounts registered by automated methods are not permitted.
  • The download of large portions of data from ScienceCheck.org for anything other than personal use is unacceptable, without the expressed permission of ScienceCheck.org. The use of robots to collect or post data in an automated fashion is also forbidden without our permission.
  • You must provide your legal full name, a valid email address, and any other information requested in order to complete the signup process.
  • Your login may only be used by one person – a single login shared by multiple people is not permitted.
  • You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account and password. ScienceCheck.org cannot and will not be liable for any loss or damage from your failure to comply with this security obligation.

We reserve the right to terminate any users and/or delete their evaluations and/or comments, if any of the above terms of use are not abided.

Additionally:

  • We are unable to confirm the accuracy of any posted evaluations or comments. We don’t take sides in factual disputes; we simply provide a forum where experimental results can be presented and discussed.
  • We reserve the right to correct or modify metadata provided by evaluators to improve accuracy which is necessary for effective searches by other users. At this time, this metadata includes method titles, keywords, and e.g. page references.
  • We retain the copyrights to all comments and evaluations and their associated data posted on ScienceCheck.org. However, we claim no additional intellectual property rights related to the material posted by users.
  • ScienceCheck.org may, in its sole discretion, modify or revise these Terms of Use and policies at any time, and you agree to be bound by such modifications or revisions. Nothing in this Agreement shall be deemed to confer any third-party rights or benefits.
